CCGA National
To be at the forefront of
the volunteer maritime SAR organizations in Canada.

Operations
By year-end in 1999, the Canadian Coast Guard Auxiliary had 1535 vessels and
4663 members. The members responded to 1882 taskings out of 8100 marine
incidents reported in Canada in 1999.
Training
Auxiliary vessels participated in 875 training exercises.
Boating Safety
By carrying out boating safety activities to foster and promote safe
practices amongst the different segments of the maritime population, members of
the CCGA contribute to a very important aspect of the SAR program delivery. The
Boating Safety Program is a proven means of reducing the number and severity of
SAR incidents.
Members of the CCGA conducted 3494 Pleasure Craft Courtesy Checks (PCCCs) and
participated in 249 boat shows and boating safety displays.
CCG - RSER 1999-2002 Business Plan
The 1999-2002 Business Plan of the Rescue, Safety and Environmental Response
Directorate identified the following key plans and strategies to support the
Canadian Coast Guard Auxiliary:
Build on our partnership by assisting the CCGA in evolving into a more
effective, capable, national organisation.
• Define the role of the National Business Manager within the new National
Council structure;
• Develop a framework for national corporate sponsorship;
• Enhance the CCGA brand, image and marketability;
• Lead within the Canadian volunteer SAR community.
CCGA National Initiatives In line with the
key plans and strategies of this Business Plan, a number of initiatives were
developed and implemented by the CCGA in 1999:

Year one of the CCGA fundraising initiative was mostly dedicated to
communication programs targeting an increased awareness of the Auxiliary by the
public before the upcoming introduction of sponsorship programs.
CCGA Membership 1999



CCGA Pacific
Building on our key strength: the skills, dedication and commitment of
our members.

Operations
CCGA-Pacific has 243 vessels and 1536 members, which makes up one third of
the total national membership of the CCGA. In 1999, the members responded to 689
taskings out of 2994 marine incidents reported by RCC Victoria.
Training
In 1999, auxiliary vessels participated in 801 training exercises.
Boating Safety
Members of the CCGA-P conducted 1423 PCCCs and participated in 35 boat shows.
CCGA Central & Arctic
A Busy and Productive Year

Operations
CCGA-C&A has 116 vessels and 844 members. In 1999, the members responded
to 245 taskings out of 1170 marine incidents reported by RCC Trenton.
Training
In 1999, auxiliary vessels participated in 4 training exercises.
Boating Safety
Members of the CCGA-C&A conducted 919 PCCCs and participated in 175 boat
shows and boating safety displays.
CCGA Laurentian
Taking stock of the situation, looking at the future and assuming a
greater role in SAR
Operations
CCGA-L has 190 vessels and 655 members. In 1999, the members responded to 479
taskings out of 1263 marine incidents reported by MRSC Quebec.
Training
In 1999, auxiliary vessels participated in 63 training exercises in the
Laurentian region.
Boating Safety
Members of the CCGA-L conducted 852 PCCCs and participated in 31 boat shows.
They also developed the CCGA Safe Boating Course.
CCGA Maritimes
Enhancing the overall Boating Safety Program.

Operations
CCGA-M has 586 registered vessels and 794 members. In 1999, the members
responded to 232 taskings out of 1437 marine incidents reported by RCC Halifax
in 1999.Training
Training
In 1999, auxiliary vessels participated in 3 training exercises.
Boating Safety
Members of the CCGA-M conducted 300 PCCCs and participated in 6 boat shows
and boating safety displays.
CCGA Newfoundland
A significant resource for SAR response and boating safety.

Operations
Since incorporation, the CCGA has grown and prospered in Newfoundland Region.
They now represent a significant resource for SAR response with 834 members and
400 vessels volunteering their services. Auxiliarists responded to 237 marine
incidents out of 636, representing 36% of the total number of marine cased
prosecuted by Newfoundland Region.
As 94% of Auxiliarists in Newfoundland and Labrador are full-time commercial
fishers, they often are first on the scene of marine rescues, ahead of primary
or secondary SAR vessels.
Training
In 1999, auxiliary vessels participated in 4 training exercises.
Boating Safety
The year 1999 saw an increase in CCGA (N) Inc. boating safety activities
through:
• Assisting the CCG Office of Boating Safety in the delivery of the boating
safety program; • Participation at SARSCENE 99 in St. John’s, Newfoundland; •
Sitting as a board member on the Regional Recreational Boating
Advisory Council (RRBAC); • Providing and manning information booths at boat
shows and other related functions; and, • Fostering safe boating practices
through “leading by example”.
